Best Italian food - Chennai - Tuscana: The Pizzeria - Nungambakkam

I went to Tuscana: The Pizzeria, in Nungambakkam, with the dream of tasting truly Italian cuisine. It was just like any high-profile restaurant I had imagined, but melded with a little Italian flavour. We found a table for four in the open air for my family! Their menu with an ‘under the Tuscan sun’ logo was creative and so were the dishes waiting to be tasted — pizzas, pastas, foccacia, breads and all the other yummy Italian delicacies. The interior was neatly done up offering a soothing ambience. The cutlery matched the interiors and set the ‘in-Italy’ mood.

Quite a spread

We were welcomed with a bread basket (rolls, oven-fresh breads) accompanied with carrots, olives and a medley of sweet mango in a sauce I couldn’t guess. The whole menu seemed like Greek and Latin to me. We then decided to start with some unfamiliar dishes and opted for the foccacia bread that contained sunflower seeds, flax seeds, pumpkin seeds all toasted in cheese, with the hope that I could expand a few inches if I ate them. My hopes were crushed when what we’d opted for wasn’t available. Miserably, I glanced at the menu when the waiter suggested we go for the olive and cheese foccacia. And so the appetizer arrived with the olives neatly cut and toasted along with the cheese that melted in my mouth.

I smiled a bit, satisfied with my share but soon turned glum when I knew that was only the beginning! We ordered our main course, the ‘Ruspante’ pizza with its thin base, crisp crust and juicy chicken which was delightful. We skipped the pasta as we were too full with the pizza and moved onto dessert — Tiramisu — which was absolute bliss! Apart from a wide array of pizzas, Tuscana also has pasta and lasagnes, with over a dozen combinations to choose from…Drag along your friends and family, make lots of time to talk over pizzas and pastas and don’t miss anything at Tuscana! If Italian is what you want, then make your way to Tuscana!
